# How to create an API key

Here’s a guide on how to create an API key for external access.

## Create an API key

1.  Log in to the store's admin account
    
2.  Go to **Settings**
    
3.  Click on the **API** tab
    
4.  Under **API users** you can add an API user.
    
5.  Enter a name for the API user and an email to be able to create an API key.
    
6.  Press **Show API token** and an API key will be generated for your store.
    
7.  After this, you can copy your API token to use it for external integrations.

## **Warning!**

**API keys must be kept private and secret, since they give access to make changes on your store through a third-party service. Always protect your API keys.**
