Starting from early 2023, you and your customers may notice that the terminal asks the customer whether to use Dankort or VISA before the payment can be processed.
New EU regulations require terminal providers to ask customers to choose between Dankort or VISA when paying with a VISA/Dankort card.
This change potentially affects all customers using an integrated terminal from Worldline or Nets.
The store has acquiring agreements for both Dankort (via Nets) and VISA.
The customer uses a VISA/Dankort (dual-function card).
The card is physically inserted into the terminal and the chip is used.
If the customer pays contactless, the terminal will always prioritize Dankort if the customer pays with a VISA/Dankort and the store has an active Dankort acquiring agreement.
If the customer pays via mobile payment (Apple Pay or Google Pay), the terminal will, by default, use the VISA part automatically.*
* Some banks support payment via Apple Pay with Dankort, but most still use VISA as the acquiring method here.
Note: This change is not implemented or chosen by Customers 1st (C1ST). It is an EU regulation that terminal providers must comply with. It is not possible to disable this feature or have the terminal select the option automatically for the customer.
When the customer is asked to choose between Dankort and VISA, they must use the arrow keys below the terminal display to switch between options, then confirm with the green button. The payment will then continue, and the customer will be prompted to enter their PIN before the payment is approved.
